This fonds contains documents and images created or collected by WAVE from the period 1974-1988. It has been divided into four series. Series I: Administrative Records includes meeting minutes and other details related to the organization’s activities, also correspondence between members of WAVE and several corporate organizations and media outlets regarding issues of pornography. Series II: Writing Campaigns contains letters written by WAVE drawing attention to issues of pornography. Series III: Resources features research articles, bibliographies, legislation, reports, slide shows, and a film discussion guide used by WAVE in their work. A number of these resources were produced by a similar New York organization. Series IV: Examples of Pornography in Pop Culture contains advertisements, magazines, and photography books to which the group objected.

This collection contains a selection of correspondence, ephemera and photographs primarily with a connection to Windsor/Essex, Chatham-Kent, or Sarnia/Lambton, acquired by Wayne Ray for digitization and addition to his Windfield Photo Archives online project. They are divided into series according to subject: Series I contains images of Chatham’s Dominion Sugar Company sugar beet processing facilities, ca. 1920s (?); Series II contains images of ships and homes on the Sarnia waterfront ca. 1990s; Series III contains late 1990s/early 2000s images of tourist facilities in other southern Ontario places, including inns in Port Severn and Ingersoll, and cruises on the Grand River and Lake Muskoka. Series IV contains correspondence from mid-20th c. Wheatley, including a discussion of 1950s United Church growth, and Series V contains ephemera connected to business, leisure, and religious activities in Windsor and Essex County, ca. 1897-1960s(?).

This collection documents aspects of unionism and labour politics with a focus on Ontario and Windsor, during the mid-20th century. It is divided into two series.

Series I contains original issues of The Guardian newspaper, described as the “official voice of UAW Locals 195, 200, 240, 444, 1498 Windsor, Ontario,” covering labour news and opinion on local, provincial, national, and international issues. There is one issue from 1969 and multiple issues for succeeding years up to 1980.

Series II contains records related to the Waffle, a radical faction within the New Democratic Party (NDP) that existed 1969-1974. The Waffle’s emphasis on the role of the NDP as a social movement, not just a political party, and its advocacy of economic nationalism are reflected in the Waffle papers which include pamphlets, correspondence, meeting minutes, press releases, and news clippings. Specific files are devoted to the movement in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Canada as a whole, as well as women, the 1972 federal election, and Waffle records in the CCF/NDP fonds at Library and Archives Canada. There is a single issue of Waffle Labour News produced for a convention (no date), and several issues of The Waffle News (1970-71).

This fonds contains documents and images related to nineteenth- and early twentieth-century European settlement in Essex and Kent counties. These include an Irish immigrant’s personal journal of settling in Essex County with his two sisters (1850). The journal primarily details Jasper Golden’s travels (Atlantic crossing, St. Lawrence River, Quebec, Kingston, Niagara, Buffalo, Detroit, Windsor) but also includes later details about time spent in Malden, Anderdon, and the now-lost port of Albertville (near Kingsville). There are also official records of infrastructure and property in Howard Township (1909), and organizational and research material related to an effort to preserve the Walker family’s rare fieldstone-clad Kent County farmhouse as a historic site. (David and Ann Walker were Scottish immigrants who settled in Harwich Township, Kent County in 1845, with their original grant of farmland remaining in the family until 1972.) The fonds also includes approximately 448 slides depicting pre-1900 homes, buildings, furnishings, objects, weapons, and equipment in Kent and Essex counties, from a Canada Council-funded project to document these artifacts. There is also a short history of Buxton, Ontario, and slides of a memorial to Shawnee chief Tecumseh.

This fonds contains administrative records of the Sydenham Glass Company, of Wallaceburg, Ontario, 1894-1913. Included are Directors’ meeting minutes, by-laws, a few share certificates, and a small amount of correspondence.

This collection contains an eclectic assortment of material – primarily images –relating to the history of Southwestern Ontario and its surrounding areas. The collection has been arranged into series that reflect the types of material received for digitization by SWODA. Series I contains photographs, including a number depicting the work and premises of a Windsor-area construction company, ca. 1920s-1970s; a 1943 group photo from a Windsor factory doing war production; and a Windsor elementary school class photo, ca. 1918; and mausoleums in Windsor Grove Cemetery, 1987-2021. Series II contains several hundred historic postcards in various styles (ca. 1900-2001) depicting landscapes, buildings, attractions, infrastructure, and modes of transportation primarily in Southwestern Ontario (especially Windsor and Essex County) and Detroit, Michigan. Five 1946 postcards depicting other places are all addressed to Miss F. “Rose” Perjul of Windsor, Ontario, mostly from newly demobilized soldier “Frank.” One postcard commemorates a 1959 royal visit. Further series will be added as applicable. Any known details about a specific item are included in the finding aid.

This fonds contains records connected with 22 Superiors or Presidents of Assumption College and University, ca. 1861-2009. For the most part it is organized chronologically by individual, although later accruals to the fonds have led to some quirks in file numbering or arrangement. Much of the fonds consists of administrative correspondence connected with institutional matters. There are also photographs, reports, publications, statistics, and notes on various subjects.

23 personal letters received by George Philpot. 22 of them were written by Irene R. [surname unknown], containing personal news, romantic hopes and feelings, and occasionally strife within their long-distance relationship. Irene’s news touches on aspects of her rural social life, the progress of her Normal School studies, news and advice from mutual friends and previous graduates of the Normal School, applying for rural school positions in competition with friends and acquaintances, physical conditions and amenities in one- and two-room rural schools, gender inequities in hiring and salary practices for teachers, the challenges of rural school fairs and timetabling as a multi-grade teacher, interactions with rural school trustees, and the prevalence of gossip about young women and schoolteachers in rural communities. 1 letter is from Betty Smith, who thanks George Philpot for his assistance in securing her a position at the Fuller Brush Company.

This fonds contains records of students and student activities at Assumption College and Assumption University, ca. 1870s-1980s. It also includes some records from Assumption High School in that period, and for the University of Western Ontario during the years of Assumption’s affiliation with Western. Included are roll books and testimonials; minutes of the Literary Society; newsletters, yearbooks, and student publications; handbooks for students, residents, and faculty; promotional and recruitment brochures for Assumption; ephemera relating to special events, convocation, dramatics, and athletics; program and course listings; and news clippings. There is a small amount of material relating to student grades or schoolwork, alumni, Second World War servicemen, and deceased Basilian Fathers. Of special note: correspondence relating to the Assumption victory song, a history of Holy Names College, and brochures for 1940s summer school offerings listing Wyndham Lewis and Marshall McLuhan as faculty.

This fonds contains records charting the institutional life and physical premises of St. Mary’s Anglican Church in the Town of Walkerville / Walkerville neighbourhood of Windsor. Series I – Paper Files is not formally arranged into sub-series, but significant record-creating groups or genres of material are grouped together in the file order. These include: church wardens, board of management/vestry, financial records, various church committees, women’s groups, men’s groups, youth groups, orders of service (bulletins), special events, church visitors and staff, as well as the building, its contents, its churchyard and cemetery (including sketches and architectural plans). Of note are a small number of records relating to the church’s relationship to the family of Walkerville founder Hiram Walker, and rich records of social and service groups for men, women, children, and youth. Series II – Photographs was originally arranged separately from the paper files. Its previous arrangement and description has been retained here; the images capture elements of the congregational activities and physical premises documented in the paper files.

The fonds does not contain parish records of births, deaths, marriages, or baptisms.
