Old Sandwich walking tours collection

This fonds consists of a materials supporting two self-guided walking tours that highlight historic architecture and institutions in the former Town of Sandwich (now a part of Windsor, Ontario). Both are undated and do not indicate who created or distributed them. The first is a bilingual brochure entitled “A Walk Through Old Sandwich – Windsor, Ontario,” and is geared toward adults, possibly ca. 1980s-1990s. The second is a stapled 81/2 x 11 package entitled “A Field Study of Early Sandwich,” possibly ca. 1970s-1980s. This one is designed for teachers leading students, and includes teaching objectives, methods and preparation, the tour stops and suitable questions for each, extended activities, and further references.

Windsor Maltese Community fonds

This fonds consists of a single file containing five short histories (written 1969-2019) about aspects of the Maltese-Canadian community. As one of several significant settlement areas for Maltese immigrants in Canada, Windsor is featured prominently. Three of the items (including one early draft with handwritten corrections) are by Maltese-Canadian Windsorite Angelo Dougall; two are by Maltese-Canadian Dan Brock and originally appeared in a Maltese-Canadian newsletter.

Rochester and Sandwich South land transactions collection

This fonds contains original records documenting 19th and early 20th century land ownership for several parcels of land in rural Essex County, including deeds of land, affidavits, and mortgages. There are also handwritten notes tracking the chain of ownership for a specific parcel. The lands documented are (1) Lot 16 South of Middle Road, Rochester Township, and (2) Lots 17 and 18 in the Ninth Concession of Sandwich South Township (formerly Sandwich East Township). These transactions involve farmers, farmwives, and bankers, as well as single, widowed, and married people, neighbours, and relatives.
