Administrative history
The Illustrated News was a short-lived American illustrated newspaper created and published by H.D. and A.E. Beach of New York City, in partnership with famed American showman, businessman, and politician P.T. Barnum, founder of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. The newspaper was published weekly for nearly a year, its print run spanning from 1 January 1853 (vol. 1, no. 1) to 26 November 1853 (vol. 2, no. 48), before being absorbed by the Boston-based magazine Gleason’s Pictorial (1851-1859).
